That's 20 million viewers over the season or fewer than 1 million people watching each race. It's not 20 million people watching each race. Sky's total UK subscribers is fewer than 9 million. And most of those won't be watching F1, that's for sure.izzy wrote: ↑21 Apr 2020, 15:06apparently the Sky audience in 2019 was 20.1 million, according to https://www.pitpass.com/66446/F1-loses- ... wers-in-UKJust_a_fan wrote: ↑21 Apr 2020, 14:53Not convinced they'll get that many extra subscribers. Since Sky have had exclusive rights, UK viewing figures have plummeted. It's almost dead in the UK now. That's a travesty.
it might increase now everybody's been starved of all kinds of sport. Not saying pay-TV isn't a travesty as you say
they are a bit slippery aren't they but it's viewers not views surely? Viewers over the season? And often more than one per family. anyway my point was whatever the real numbers are they will quite likely go up, a bit at least, and the NowTV ones especially, and all the people with a subscription will be making sure to watch, more than usualJust_a_fan wrote: ↑21 Apr 2020, 15:27That's 20 million viewers over the season or fewer than 1 million people watching each race. As I said, they have fewer than half of the alleged viewers as subscribers, and many of those will not have sports / F1 packages. So the numbers of real people watching the races is definitely not going to be 20 million per race. Hence the likelihood that it is views over the season. Indeed, most figures show F1 races in the UK being viewed by fewer than 1 million per race since it became purely pay-per-view.izzy wrote: ↑21 Apr 2020, 15:43they are a bit slippery aren't they but it's viewers not views surely? That's tautology. the invocation of 'stupid' in your first statement was the (presumptive) appearance of the fallacy. Be careful, or you will end up holding crude oil.
I'm pointing out that in order to be a fallacy, it has to be false that is a tautology in a way, but
...I wonder how much momentum this has?izzy wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 18:03Imola is saying they'll hold a closed doors race for free https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/imol ... s/4783694/

Seb's quote is interesting, losing the mystique as you say, but i think he's a lone voice. It'll be not too different from races that hardly have any crowd already like Bahrain or Abu Dhabi. The teams will get at least 66% of their money, from prize money share from TV and FoM sponsors, and probably all their team sponsorship, as long as there are at least 15 races. It's a huge differenceScorpaguy wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 21:39...I wonder how much momentum this has?izzy wrote: ↑22 Apr 2020, 18:03Imola is saying they'll hold a closed doors race for free https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/imol ... s/4783694/

- I know Vet stated he did not want to race at a fan-less venue. What is the opinion of all the drivers? ...and in the
end does their opinion matter?
- I suspect Todt wants to cancel the whole season, how much pressure is he getting from FIA/FOM to hold a semblance
of a season?
- Some teams have expressed a monetary need to race, just how much cash would they be able to gain in a fan-less
season? Such an amount has to be fractional as compared to a normal environment.
- If we do go fan-less,does F1 risk losing a bit of its mystique and prestige? ...and are the powers that be willing to risk
such?
