I agree Verstappen won't be champion, but not because he needs to "learn "something.

It will be because his car isn't fastest, which is almost always why a given driver doesn't win a race or championship.

With some notable exceptions of course.

Even when his car was the fastest he did not win(or maximize points intake).

The speed of his car relative to his competitors is not his greatest weakness. His problem is that he causes too many collisions, lucky for him he is rarely penalized as he should be. In 2019 he caused at least 10 collisions, and that was supposed to be his "clean" year.

Crashed into SAI in Bahrain
Crashed into BOT in Monaco
Crashed into HAM in Monaco
Crashed into LEC in Austria
Touched LEC at Silverstone
Crashed into Kimi in Spa, TWICE!
Crashed into someone at Monza T1
Crashed into HAM in Mexico
Crashed into BOT in Mexico
Crashed into MAG in Mexico

Verstappen will end up like Vettel, coddled by his team, but never corrected for his faults. Maybe he'll get a dominant car like Vettel did and win a couple championships, but he won't fix his greatest weakness until he is held accountable for it.

And yet, only one crash DNF, third in the championship, three wins and beating both Ferrari’s (and having Leclerc’s number).

Having LEC'S number? I beg to differ, LEC clearly outdrove VER in Silverstone and was doing so again in Austria until VER crashed into him putting him off track which clearly deserved a penalty. I guess on track racecraft skills no longer matter in the new crashem bashem Formula destruction derby.

Will put my bets on Hamilton if he has the hunger still. Rudbull have most of the ingredients, im worried the expectations will kill their chances - internal pressure.
Ham 1st, Ver 2nd, Bot 3rd.

As you noted - Alonso's both championships were won in the second fastest car.

LEC clearly outdrove VER in Silverstone ..
Not really, +/- 40+ extra illegal bhp did pass him eventually. One could say that became painfully visible @COTA.
.. and was doing so again in Austria until VER crashed into him putting him off track which clearly deserved a penalty.
Hahaha, he was hunted down like a bathtub rubberduck mate .. with those 40+ extra bhp he couldn't beat the DRS in the end. LEC simply lost the right to that corner as he didn't have the apex.
It did not deserve any penalty, as the stewards decided wisely ..

Max will struggle with pressure of a championship in my opinion. Max hasn't won a title since his karting days. He had a run at the Euro F3 title, but Ocon done him there. The pressure fighting for a title can crack even the best, so some experience in that area will be very valuable. In comparison Leclerc has won 2 major championships since Max joined RedBull.

Er, Alonso was massively helped by the change in tyre rules that prevented tyre changes during the race. The Michelin was a much better tyre in that regard. Bridgestone had spent a number of seasons making tyres for Ferrari based on a "drive them hard for a sprint, change for new tyres, drive them hard for a sprint" approach. They couldn't do that in 2005 and the Ferrari/Bridgestone combination struggled for pace as a result. Alonso and Kimi benefitted. Alonso also benefitted from Kimi's McLaren being less reliable.

on balance of reliability, you have to say that Renault had the "best" car for a season-push. Not necessarily the fastest, but the best.

VER gained the lead over LEC in the pits and then lost it with a mistake on cold tires. VER passed having gone all 4 off after touching LEC, he should've been made to give the position back.

The lap before VER crashed into LEC in Austria shows what would happen if VER didn't use dirty tactics and push LEC off track.

If those two races haven't opened your eyes regarding Leclerc and Verstappen, nothing will. Leclerc clearly outclassed Verstappen, and we have seen what measures Verstappen has to take to end up in front of him.

I am not a Verstappen (or RedBull ) fan, but appreciate the talent and determination he has. Reminds me lots about Senna's raw talent and utter unwillingness to accept anything but victory.
And.."rubbin is racing" period.

Verstappen gets into everyone's head and most that try to take him on wheel to wheel (most of the time) come out 2nd best, even Lewis! That says a lot.

Love him or hate him. The kid is very special and will go on to win a lot if he gets the right car.
