This would be a normal weather for British Touring cars and the racing there is just on a different level.

Last time I checked BTCC cars weren’t delivering 900+bhp to the rear wheels

Well qualifying is 3 hours away, if it doesn't happen then as the FIA race director said “There’s lots of options to put it simply. If a worst-case scenario was to come about, we’ve already had a look and qualifying could take place on Sunday morning"
Ross Brawn just confirmed this in an interview with Jenson. If the qualifying does not take place this afternoon the F2 sprint race and Porsche supercup race tomorrow morning will be axed.

In the F3 race there was an accident on the main straight, due to either aquaplaning or just poor visibility, their thinking was if cars can't even race in a straight line it's too dangerous

Agreed F1 drivers have a higher skill level but I've not seen any of them saying lets get on with it so it must be bad

Brawn: "There is a chance that we will have qualifying at the end of the day. If not, there is a plan for tomorrow. We then drive the qualifying in the morning and won't have F2 race and Porsche Cup."

Pirelli still has not got a good grip on wet tyres. They continue to make bad wet weather range. Good Wet tyres should provide a whole lot of grip even in treacherous conditions.

Qualifying isnt as bad as holding a race in such conditions, so i would have hoped for a “lets wait and see approach”... i also really would have loved to see a wet qualifying.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

The incompetence of Pirelli at providing proper wet weather tyres is frankly astounding. Is it them for F3 as well?
Yes but I think it is not so much the tyres (or tires for the USians). As I understand with F1 the current floors will give before the tyres.

at the moment, those are the worst conditions we'll have today. It's supposed to significantly improve over the coming hours:

if this is correct, running the Qualifying as planned should be no problem

Few drops of rain and they cancle the session? What is this? F1?
Absolutely ridiculous to straight out cancel it. They at least could have let the drivers go out and try it. It’s like forbidding children to play outside because it might be dangerous.

Just because F3 couldn’t take place in much worse cars with worse drivers doesn’t mean that the same would apply to F1.
If I'm an F1 team, I'm not going out in that weather. If a team with RBR's resources have only been able to manufacture two noses to cover both last weekend and this weekend then barely any other team will have multiple spares either. If I go out and my driver aquaplanes into a wall I've just boned Quali and the race in an effort to get some data only relevant to wet weather driving.

Am I the only one to look at that weather and think ‘I’ve seen perfectly good racing in worse weather than that’?
You can’t continue to race with several cars stranded around the circuit.
I think you miss my point. There wouldn’t be cars all around the track like that In previous years.

Absolutely. They also have to think about what time practice potentially ends. You can’t go back to back into qualifying IF the weather is good enough at 2pm.

Got to love it. Torrential rain in the middle of July....

Fingers crossed! Would be a massive shame if they couldn’t run it today or worst case tomorrow morning.
