Yes, Lando has a new engine.

Horner was saying that Ricardo’s car had no downforce. Is McLaren setting up the car for the rain tomorrow?
Carlos said in his post qualifying interview that rain would hinder them, as they set up the car for a completely dry race.

mclaren is definitely running more downforce oriented setup. Carlos even managed to beat everyone on pouhon apex speed, which is quite incredible. Almost flat trough turn 7 (malmedy), higher speed than verstappen.
Their problem is low speed corners, 11 kmh down on verstappen trough bruxelles. Verstappen able to carry tighter line, compared to carlos who drifts wide and loses quite a lot of time there.

Yeah, I heard that too (after I posted my initial question). I do wonder still if it is to the limit or not (Horner hinted at an extreme for the Renault), and if Carlos was talking especially about his car (sector times hint at that, given Norris’ S2 times)

Something doesn't make sense. They are clearly running more downforce than Renault

Even without rain the Renault tyres will struggle.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

I wonder if McLaren seriously consider Pato O’ Ward a future F1 prospect. He’s just a couple of months older than Lando, doing a good job in IndyCar. I know it doesn’t automatically translate to being a good F1 driver, but Red Bull had him in their driver programme with this in mind. Too bad McLaren don’t have a B team
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

I wonder why they keep insisting they don't have the setup geared towards rain even when it's clear they had a high df config.

Zac hinted as much at the end of last year, but not sure how serious the comment was.

"While the projects are separate, they complement each other commercially and we don't have a young driver under contract for 2020," he said. "So I wouldn't be surprised to see one of those guys in one of our F1 cars around a rookie test."

In 2020 running Norris, O'Ward and Askew that's some young talent in race seats.

It's always good to have young talent in the pipeline, but I think that they need a strong Indy program too, they should keep O'Ward there. NOR, RIC is a top combination in and outside of the track they are both fast and good for sponsors too (commercial benefits).

Mid 1:50s similar ballpark to Renaults and Racing point of stroll (Perez was quite a bit faster, with fewer laps though) .

Does Sainz have an engine problem? Lot of smoke coming from the pits.
