That's some assumption. It's funny how whenever the laptime isn't there it's always blamed on the engine supplier but never on the non-engine bits of the car. RedBull will run out of engine suppliers if they keep using that excuse.

Lower drag on the car with the high inlet sidepods and more power in almost every condition because of the overheating they suffered most of 2019.

That's what was suggested would happen to some extent. If they don't have to use up engine life in extreme qualifying modes, you get to run the engine a bit harder in the race.

Because it's just as likely to hinder you as it is to help you. It might also have different effects on their aero package, as they run a different philosophy to almost everyone else!

It has nothing to do with where they were positioned relative to the rest of the field. You can easily get too close and then you're hindering the second car through sector 2.

So if those engine modes were ever in the mind in reeling back Mercedes... well, that was never going to happen. Well done to Mercedes though, fastest average speed lap in history. Obvious the (not oval) Bahrain race might put pay to that, but still incredibly impressive... baring any reliability issues in the race, they'll take this one with ease.

Hugely impressive from Sainz, sneaking into Q3. I really hope he has a clean race and, at the very least, can score some solid points. Perez in P4 might be in with a shot of P3, though I'm sure Max will make it hard for him. I wonder how much Honda lost out with these engine mode clarifications... but no doubt Red Bull will still be strong in the race. Was expecting a bit more from Renault in qualifying, giving their pace over the weekend... but a bit far down. Their race pace looked quite decent so maybe they'll feature more there.

Ferrari... well, there isn't much to say. I can only defend them as they might've got both cars in Q2 today had it not been for the Q1 qualifying shambles at the end, but don't see them gaining much in the race unfortunately. Hope I'm wrong, but being realistic...

The first lap is going to be interesting. I can see the Mercs fighting in to the first chicane and those behind having a few incidents. Safety car on lap 1?

It's not difficult to stay a few seconds behind.

Anyway it looks as though Hamilton received a tow so very poor of Merc if you ask me.

That is a big assumption. At best it’s the second place chassis behind Mercedes.

The thing is, im going to predict more dnfs for the rest of the season from teams running to hard, my money is on a few for Red Bull
