Red Bull RB5

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Aside from reliability, will this (beautiful) car stand a change with the Renault engine? Maybe it's to early to judge, but I can't image that Renault's modifications will close the gap with other engines completely.

Intresting, could there be shark gills put in there for this purpose as they are close to the cars centre line???

One thing i have a concern about is the exaust location to where the suspension is, shurley the hot gasses could make the suspension fail???

Don't call me shurley :D

The front wing is a thing of beauty so far, i think the front end is the best looking aesthetically so far.

Does Red Bull use their own gearbox? Or do they use Renault's one.

They use one from an old Ford Cortina.

:D I would like to know myself. I read that RBR attached suspension arms onto their gearbox though. #-o Don't think Renault did that, even if it turns out to be the same box.

edit: Here's a part from Scarbs' analysis on autosport.com ..

'The rear dampers are now mounted to the side of the gearbox and operated by pull rod suspension (rather than push rod): the pull rod can be seen leading downwards from the wheel to an area between the engine and gearbox. This lower the car's centre of gravity and clears the top of the gearbox from obstructing the beam wing.'

Well, at least that's a design that has proven its self. :D

What i don't understand is how they can get away without a central rear wing pillar. Every other car does, what is going to stop it from wobbiling all over the place at high speed?!

I love the new car :D

Left radiator intake appears to be slightly smaller than the right...

Quite a bit of difference on the front suspension between Vettels car on track, and Webbers car in the studio shots.

Seems that the wide suspension arms didn't make it to the track, as well as a few not-so-big-deal stuff at the rear, like the exhaust exits...

I hope that is is a regular podium visitor this year, and MAN is there going to be a TON of copying going on before Melbourne... :-)

The gap was about 25 to 30 Bhp if i'm not mistaken. Not too difficult to overcome when you are allowed to. Who knows, maybe they are a little ahead now.
