If Qualifying is any indication... The new nose seems to be a bit of a compromise with the current package... Carlos and Lando are usually around a tenth of each in qualifying, the gap in Qualifying at Sochi seems to be around 3 tenths, part of that gap is probably the nose.the EDGE wrote:New nose for Norris... looks like it’s here to stay
Just need to see what Carlos is running. Maybe they will go different ways more more evaluation
That’s a very good question... I believe they have to continue running it on both cars from the next race however firstly you have to consider it is only the front crash structure that is contained within the nose that is Homologated, not the FW mounting pillars or any of the aero fairingsadrianjordan wrote: ↑26 Sep 2020, 22:58Do we know for sure whether they have to continue running the new nose once it's homologated or whether they can return to the old spec for future races?
Surely the FIA couldn't force teams to use the new spec - what if they didn't have enough spare parts after a crash for example?
22.1.3 From the defined freeze date, the specification of HC may not change for the remainder of the 2020 Championship
If the 2 noses contain the same crash structure then they would be able to swop between the 2 options22.1.4 - c. In the case an HC component has been revised either through the use of tokens, or before its homologation date but does not meet the Competitors expectations, it will be permitted to revert back to the original specification of this HC component within five Competitions from its first introduction.
McLaren, despite acknowledging that the new nose is not yet delivering performance, chose to keep it on Norris’ car.
Team boss Seidl explained why:
“We are happy with how the nose was working,” he told The-Race after qualifying.“The reason why Lando kept the nose on was because he did the main work yesterday, and with the crash Carlos had in the morning he only had the opportunity for one lap, which just wasn’t enough.
“We’re quite restricted at the moment, with the number of parts. That’s the reason why Lando is running it.“It did what we expected from it yesterday, in terms of performance compared to the baseline at the moment it’s not a step forward really, because it’s just the beginning of a package we bring over the next couple of races.
“We obviously then hope that we can make a good step forward in terms of performance.“It’s a new development direction, where we see a lot of potential going forward with ongoing developments for this year but also for next year.
“And that’s the reason why we investigate this direction.”
