If they couldn’t get the wets to work in the conditions would the inters really have been better? Max was raging about being put on inters, would his aborted lap on wets have been fast enough for pole?
Not sure. I just think the Mercedes needed time to get heat into their tires, so doing multiple laps and getting closer to the target time was key. When they (along with everyone else on full wets) realized they were on the wrong tire, it all went to hell with being late and last to the right tire, with only time for two timed runs and along having everyone else ahead of them to be compromized by every incident happening ahead.
Ps: if it is also true that Bottas had a spin, it most definitely would have compromized Lewis being that he was ahead. It probably wouldnt have mattered much though, they were on the back foot throughtout the session.
