I am amazed and upset by the images of this accident, I thought I would have seen another F1 driver die after seeing that car wreckage. Thank goodness for the advancements in F1 and the Halo, I did complain about it when introduced all them arguments are well and truly disproved now.
Agree. I thought he must be dead. He was sitting in a fireball for at least 5-10 seconds, let alone the viciousness of the impact.
Not that it takes away from your point, but the firesuits are rated for 60s of open fire (don't know if humans are....)

No of course, but thinking more of his clarity of mind in the situation. Trapped in a fireball.

I counted 20 seconds before he got out. I can’t imagine being sat in a firefly hell-ball like that for any time.

despite the good outcome first responders were slow.

Imagine no medical car around.

Incredibly good of him to get out. He had to save himself. I am shaken. We are still so close from disaster. The angle of the barrier is too steep imho. Same as eau rouge.

Lessons have to be learned of this.

That pole, just behind His back. We need saver barriers. In all these places.

Agreed. That definitely qualifies as a miracle. 26 sec in a fireball of hell. A reminder that racing is still dangerous. That halo has absolutely saved his life going into that barrier.

Thoughts are with Romain and his young family. Glad he can get back to them

can someone confirm the restart order ? Will it be as they finished ? or a full restart ???
in the rules all it says "In all cases the order will be taken at the last point at which it was possible to determine the position of all cars". I would think that's usually the start/finish line, meaning they go back to the original order? But I can't say for certain

Agreed. The medical car team saved his life, or at least prevented a lot more severe burns. And for Grojean to not be knocked unconscious was nothing short of a miracle. This could have been so much worse, but Romain, the halo, and the medical team all helped it to not be. Lots to learn from this.

In my opinion that barrier is unsafe even if repaired. That was big shunt but not a huge one and the car went through it like a piss through the snow!
There are some suspect parts of the circuit, that isn't part of the track and that armco barrier is for a service road.

I'm glad he survived.
He went into the barrier pretty much at 90deg.

These barriers can’t protect against that I’m afraid. It’s designed primarily to bounce you back onto the raceway.
That was never 90° judging from the tire marks. I'd even say it was less then 45°.

To be fair and accurate the marshall from the other side of the racetrack was instrumental.

I’ve just noticed that Romain had lost a shoe in that fireball.
