V8 SuperCars have also avoided going the painted-on route and as a result, their cars can ride bumps and curbs without destroying the wheels despite weighing 1,395 kilos.
The 18" tyres on the tourers are 680mm in diameter, 10mm bigger than the 2021 F1 tyres, and 45mm smaller than the 2022 F1 tyres.

I was referring to the sidewall aspect ratio, rather than the overall size.

But being identical 18" tyres and having a smaller overall size, the sidewall aspect ratio is by definition considerably less than those that F1 will run?

V8 Supercar
305/380 R18

Formula One
265/725 R18 (front)
405/725 R18 (rear)

Converted into standard terminology, the V8 Supercar tyres are a 35% aspect ratio and the Formula One tyres are a 50% aspect ratio front and 45% aspect ratio rear.

I never used the word "identical", I merely used SuperCars as an example of a wheel and tire combo that worked well with curbs and didn't have a super-low profile sidewall (in contrast to the old super tourers).

V8 Supercars have much more imaginative ways of destroying wheels (and cars) than just riding over kerbs. That lot are mad!

I see no reason for 18" (or 19" or 20") tyres to impair the ability of a Formula One car to utilise the optimal shortest racing line through a corner. :)

Are you suggesting this is not the proper to navigate a corner!? Surely you jest!

Erm, the pictures don't support your argument...

How is it the formula e tyre is so different in outer dimensions in comparison to f1?

I think that graphic is wrong.
The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV was developed especially for Formula E and has several specific features. Equivalent to road tyre sizes of 255/40R18 (front) and 305/30R18 (rear).
https://www.michelin.com/en/documents/f ... ong-beach/

Formula E tyre sizes:
255/40 R18 (front) >> in racing tyre dimensions that is 255/660 R18
305/30 R18 (rear) >> in racing tyre dimensions that is 305/640 R18

Yeah that's a mistake. Formula E graphics can be dodgy, they've put the 18" as the diameter of the tyre

The actual inflated diameters are 650mm on the front and 690mm on the rear.

Why do these proposed new tyres have such as high aspect ratio? I would have expected them to go real street style with them.

Because it's not ideal for racing. However the super high sidewall isn't either great for control over suspension either. So they compromised.
