Why have they gone for plain diffuser strakes though?Sevach wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 19:47I think i know why Ferrari didn't go the whole way in the Mercedes suspension concept.
The way their hot air exits are designed a good chunk of the suspension is blocked from the stream coming from the coke, a lot less to be gained for compromising suspension geometry.

This diffuser/floor combo is the one they had in Abu Dhabi last year, they gotta have something better cooking.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:13Why have they gone for plain diffuser strakes though?Sevach wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 19:47I think i know why Ferrari didn't go the whole way in the Mercedes suspension concept.

I don't know about the tire degradation but this is extremely misleading considering both set their times on C4 tires with an unknown fuel load. I guess Lewis is in even worse shape.wowgr8 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:20https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-te ... s/5712990/
The Red is not shining: Maranello's doubts come more from the long run simulations where there was more tire degradation than expected.
Carlos Sainz, who ran in the morning, even ended up in the sandwich of the two Haas, behind Mick Schumacher, 12th, and in front of Nikita Mazepin, that is to say two rookies struggling with a car that is the one of last year, updated to 2021 rules and with V6 056/6.
Very opposite to what leclerc said after the tests today. He said that they ran a lot of tests today, a lot of them v positive, others less. The feeling is good inside the team.wowgr8 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:20https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-te ... s/5712990/

Lets hope so. Still can't get over those giant exhausts tho. Hope they're only there for bahrain and they shrunk them down later [-o<Sevach wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:19This diffuser/floor combo is the one they had in Abu Dhabi last year, they gotta have something better cooking.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:13Why have they gone for plain diffuser strakes though?Sevach wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 19:47I think i know why Ferrari didn't go the whole way in the Mercedes suspension concept.

I believe the commentators were talking about degradation of the harder tyres. They said in F2 when they got harder tyres, there was actually more deg because there was less grip and more sliding.wowgr8 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:20https://it.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-te ... s/5712990/

I feel that their hybrid cape is still in need of development, and can bring good gains, however, one questions the worth in that seeing what's at stake next year.Carl Mccoy wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 20:09I have the impression that Ferrari has made a lot of progress with the engine. But the chassis is still far behind the competition. In the mid sector, Leclerc was very slow despite his best time in the S1.
Because the fronts are not worked much they go through "heat cycling" particularly the hards, and this causes them to grain. This causes understeer, and when the driver attempts to correct for this by attempting to push harder, it doesn't help.SiLo wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 21:25I believe the commentators were talking about degradation of the harder tyres. Honestly I don't know why they keep changing the tyre structures or compounds, it really doesn't help the teams. We want them understanding the tyres because it brings them closer together.
Another confirmation for Franco Nugnes often making stuff up.ryaan2904 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2021, 21:12Very opposite to what leclerc said after the tests today. Another thing to mention is that Ferrari hardly used any drs at all and never used the 8th gear.
