Maybe Mr. Alonso will be in for a long year. I don't understand why Alpine are so slow. Perhaps Ricciardo did the right thing going to McLaren, and Renault's improvements in 2020 were typical Renault flattering to deceive. :?:
We need to wait for thd qualy but fernando or Alpine lose almost 1s to max in S2 and 8 thents to Norris its huge !
The pecking order won't be clear until 3-4 races in. It could well be track specific.
This.

It’s going to take 5 races into a 23 race calendar to give us an idea of how this season going to shake out.

I'm generally tired of hearing about all the bs (as far as i'm concerned), handicaps etc.
Why not have measures to make the field more compact and competitive (instead of the traditional FOM Bernie philosophy of pouring more revenue into the top teams and making the disparity worse)!?
I'm not talking about prize money (that's the same as before, but should be rectified), I'm talking about where the higher up the grid you finish the less CFD/tunnel time you get.

Why in the lower part it is said that the average laptime of Sainz on medium is slower than the one of both McLarensif it is indeed slightly faster?

Medium runs done, Merc nearly 6 tenths up on Max . Hmm....
I missed the beginning of the session, did Max make a mistake?
I didnt notice any, he was faster than Perez in all 3 sectors so I dont think he made any mistakes.

I'm already thinking it could be RedBull advantage on light fuel, Merc advantage on heavy. Would make for a great season if thats the case. Bring it on!

Edit. Merc not improving much on the softs
Nathan, Max broke off his second hot lap on yellow. That was the fastest lap for all. Don’t know why, wasn’t shown.

What's wrong with that? It's an Americanism, but Americanised draft + budget cap type sports like say the Australian Football League work very well. You get that turn over from bottom of the league table to top of the league table to bottom again, that you just don't tend to get in uncapped European sports.

The skill comes in maximising the highs, and minimising the lows.

The alternative is that the rich teams, like Collingwood or Adelaide, would win all the time -- which would be plainly unacceptable to the supporters of the small teams.

Does the average for Max include the 40 that will make it look worse than it is? If it does, Max's average is much better than it appears.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I see. One thing I will add though,at the time when I checked his best sector times , he was faster than Perez in each, but only just. So its not like he was on a faster lap and bailed out. That early run on mediums, RedBull were well down on Mercedes for whatever reason.

Thanks for that, I don’t have F1 tv and rely solely on the tv broadcast. I think Hamilton is still slightly up on Verstappen. But OK, tomorrow we will see the actual Qualy.

It would drop his average to the 37.5 range. With the caveat RBR used a higher PU setting today.

It does include the 40.358 If you take it out the average drops to a 37.734 which is 0.001 faster than Lewis

It appears it was a two-stint run S-M, the others seem to have done a M run only so maybe a correction has been applied?

Drops to 37.5 when you exclude VER's first lap of 1:39s.

VER 8 laps 37.5 average vs. HAM 6 laps 37.7 average. Close, but advantage VER thus far. Though, again, we don't know about fuel loads, PU modes, etc.

Also, PER's stint was remarkably consistent, little deg compared to Merc.
