Everyone is having a terrible time in p3 so far.

To be fair this one is a bit pointless conditions wise.

Bottas losing lap after lap to track limits at T4. He's really not happy with the car in the session so far.

It is a bit eye opening watching Red Bull onboard vs. Mercedes onboard. Verstappen looks like he is on a Sunday cruise, very easy to drive and under control despite the conditions. Fast track to Lewis who is fighting the car a lot.

... and yes, fuel loads and settings and night time blah blah blah, but it is quite telling. Has to be said, if Mercedes is able to do those times with a car as twitchy as that, one has to imagine the sort of pace they potentially have when they get that car sorted out (... or when they take the fuel out).

Yeah, giving Verstappen a fast and compliant car must help him get more out of it, one could say that a twitchy Merc shows how Hamilton can get it done, while Bottas needs to try and get a few laps that don't cut T4!

Did anyone get, earlier in FP3, Ted talking about how that post-race check is related to cost cap in the sense that FIA wants to dig a bit deeper into the cars, to be able to see what’s changed (or not) at different teams and monitor that? I found it interesting, hadn’t made that connection.

"The data, though, makes for even better reading when you take all of a driver’s mini-sectors and combine them to make their ideal lap

This kind of analysis is pointless, because the lines from one sector affect the other, so going fast in one sector may slow you in another, and going fast at the start may kill your tyres for the final sectors because of overheating.

They haven't 'left' half a second on the table - they've been trying different lines and different strategies with how much they take out of the tyre over the lap to find the best option.
If the effect is negligible it is still a fair comparison. A bigger effect than that is tyre degradation through the lap. But that can also be adjusted for somewhat. I find the ideal lap stats, while not scientific, have been fairly usable over the years. Its not like it's a new contrivance.

This is the key for me. They have a car handling like a dump truck yet can still go pretty fast, especially on the long runs.

They might not be the fastest later in Q and may not win the race. But you'd have to say once they tame the handling this will be a very fast car.

Verstappen has to be the favorite for pole.
Hamilton has kinda tamed the Merc, but Bottas is taking a beating.
Hard to call after that Mclaren, AT and Ferrari will have a big fight imo.

Does anyone think a jury would convict someone that "dealt with" Crofty? The guy's a total numpty! His inane ramblings about sharks, FFS. Aarrrgh!

The Alpine looks bloody awful. Alonso is having a mare.

McLaren seem nowhere as well.
