Hard to call after that Mclaren, AT and Ferrari will have a big fight imo.
Max looks like he has time in his pocket in that car. The Mercedes, on the other hand, looks like it needs a lot of careful handling. A swap around from last year, in effect. Max must be odds on for pole today.

OCO might just be faster than ALO
STR might just be faster than VET
SAI might just be faster than LEC

How’s that for a P3 overreaction!

Merc only 0.9 faster than an alfa romeo ? Something is amiss.

Red Bull kicking ass! The performance on the Sector 2 tells you how much more downforce they got.

Not bad from Ferrari on mediums
Not bad... but surprising that they've decided to go on Mediums instead of Softs; Saving them for qualifying I guess or used a lot on Friday?

A bit more interesting to see Sainz ahead of Leclerc again... but again, just Free Practice at the moment. Come Qualifying if that ends up being the same however...

He said Alfa Romeo and you answer with Alpha [Tauri] :D And no, it's not possible for Alfa Romeo to be that good

Logic dictates so. Oooor maybe the people running with the Merc concept (including Merc themselves) lost a huge chunk with the floor rule change. I mean, when you look, it does make sense. The cars who adopted the Merc philosophy in the past season are absolutely nowhere. Renault and Aston, namely.

edit: and yeah, talking about the alfa romeo and not toro rosso, as Morteza said. Thanks for the heads up man. Didn't register that he replied with alpha : D

Either they are gauging if they can go through Q2 on mediums or saving as many softs as they can.

Red Bull will take the pole and the Sunday win. There's no reason thinking otherwise at this point.

So what do we think Pole will be?

Low 1.28s?
Last year hamilton improved 1.4s from fp3 to q3. Verstappen improved only 7 tenths. I think low 28s is too low an estimate. It seems hig 28s or maybe even low 29s are more probable.

Several people would lose their minds right now if both drivers did the same thing this year!

And that new Honda PU seems to be quite good too. It might end up being closer come race day, but even then I suspect Red Bull will slowly run away with it with superior cornering and tyre management.

Mercedes has a lot of work to do. Granted this track has rarely been good to Merc over the past 7 years, but they've never been beaten by that kind of margin.

As Lewis said in pre season testing Red Bull are currently the fastest however lets not forget that in 2018 Mercedes didn't win any of the first 3 races but won both championships in the end, we wont know the pecking order until 5 races have passed too many casual fans are far too reactionary on here.

Yes, when you look at those sector two times especially, it appears that the new regs have really affected downforce on the low rake cars.
