As Lewis said in pre season testing Red Bull are currently the fastest however lets not forget that in 2018 Mercedes didn't win any of the first 3 races but won both championships in the end, we wont know the pecking order until 5 races have passed too many casual fans are far too reactionary on here.
Different circumstances, though. You can argue Vettel/Ferrari threw it away to some extent. But also Merc introduced massive upgrade packages throughout the season to improve the car.

They won't be able to do it this year due to the cost cap + limited wind tunnel time (by virtue of finishing 1st). I think one team principal said that they will switch to 2022 as early as Spain (early May). I think Merc may throw in the towel early this year as well if they can't make a dent into Red Bull's lead, leading to a 2013-esque season.

I'm calling it now....

Max on pole, then DNF for him in the race.

Both Mers have issues.... Gasly wins.

So we haven’t even qualified yet for Rd1 of 23 and some posters are already throwing in the towel for some teams?

This is probably why none of us here are team principals

I think we need to see some races on tracks that aren’t gusty windy, boiling hot, with sand blowing on them first. It’s 50C / 122F!! Give it 5 races at least...

There was no limit on car development in 2018 tho. With the 2021 regulation, the car you start the season with weights a hell lot more. Mercedes will crawl back like they always did, but definitely not in the 2018 fashion (or speed).

Alonso is so slow...

With Ocon P8 a top driver like RIC or past ALO could have been P6

Let’s wait until Barcelona to see the full picture of teams and drivers

Merc only 0.9 faster than an alfa romeo ? Something is amiss.
because alpha never can do a car that close to merc ?
Logic dictates so. Oooor maybe the people running with the Merc concept (including Merc themselves) lost a huge chunk with the floor rule change. I mean, when you look, it does make sense. The cars who adopted the Merc philosophy in the past season are absolutely nowhere. Renault and Aston, namely.

edit: and yeah, talking about the alfa romeo and not toro rosso, as Morteza said. Thanks for the heads up man. Didn't register that he replied with alpha : D
If you mean low rake by Mercedes philosophy, Renault had the highest rake on the grid last year. Also this year they've not changed their rake philosophy.

That RedBull suspension is really working well with these lower rear downforce levels.

Yea, I get the distinct feeling various members of the F1 community are pulling "data" out of thin air to support the narrative as they see it!

This.

You would think they’re getting paid by word count, not by quality of information.

Most teams don’t even let these people get within sniffing distance, but they’re going to tell you all about the design philosophies and perform some ocular wind tunnel testing.

If I was a team principal / driver, I would have a hard time hiding my eye rolls.
