2021 car comparison thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Are the Merc rear hot air exit smaller than the others? maybe, but the Merc exits are also different, shape-wise. While most cars have a peanut-shaped exit (top), the Merc exit are more mushroom-shaped (bottom) and the stem of that mushroom is rarely visible, so people might think that the W11 has a smaller peanut-shaped exit.
Next time we'll talk about wishbone philosophies and the difference between the banana-shaped arms and the cucumber-shape school.

2 Things:

- with the exception of the Red Bull, the other car's "peanut-shaped" outlets still have some "stem" to them

- the relative volume of the "stem" on the Mercedes "mushroom-shaped" hot air exit is still way smaller than what your illustration suggests (taking into account that it has the transmission case running through the middle of it)...

HungarianRacer is correct about the cooling exit comparisons The Mercedes gearbox casing is a 'V' which occupies a greater volume than the Red Bull's, so there's actually very little to the 'side' cooling exits on the gearbox casing.

Mercedes seem to be running a more aggressive wing package than the others (in particular Red Bull, but still more than either the Ferrari or Maclaren); this has been a bit of a theme of late.
