Aston Martin AMR21

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Sky kept banging on about this being a large package, but all I have seen is the diffuser wing? That can't be worth the 'supposed' 0.5sec can it?

Does it improved car performance? Qualifying & Race don't show any..

are they going to revert to the steeper angle one on higher downforce circuits? w12's sidepod too is a more subtle version of the w11's
Imola is higher df than Bahrain and they used the shallower, longer slope for that though.

It looks a lot like the MP4-25 sidepods of old
the average fastest lap at imola during the race was 230km/h by lewis compared to bahrain's 211km/h by bottas..a higher downforce set up most definitely will help at bahrain than imola

I don’t believe that’s an entirely fair comparison using average lap speeds. You could have a lower average speed with lower downforce tracks and vice versa. It all depends on track layout

Seems the upgrade did not work as intended. How come they are not able to figure out the issues with the car.
Seems stupid, but cant they just sacrifice 1 or 2 race weekends, strip the car to basis configuration, and then work the way up, may be they can figure out then.
Even Alpine with a Airbox/bodywork as big as a elephant is improving gradually...

You see. They AM were planning on the "new era" rules change because that would mean they didnt have to copy again. They would get the most out of the 2019 Merc clone while they devote resources to the new era. But that was not to be. New era delayed by a year. Instead, with the 2021 floor and Brake duct tweaks they ended up stuck with a 2019 Mercedes body for two years with no reference point for these new tweaks to the floor.
