Sorry buy why do they move the sessions to be 3 hours later than previously? FP2, now the qualifying, is at 6pm. Is that a night race or what? I'm sure it has a whole lot to do with the new format, but for what exact purpose?
I mean that's pretty obvious... they want to maximise viewership both in Europe and the Americas.

Nobody would watch qualifying at 2pm on a Friday; but if it's at 6pm (UK), then people will be off work and/or at home watching (in Europe), and you get people on their lunch break in North America.
The last few FP session have been relatively late too, right? I was surprised when I found out that in Austria FP1 was at half past 11 (local time) while FP2 only started at 15h (ie. roughly around when this weekends FP1 will start). Probably hope to give US audience a better opportunity indeed, though for me it means I can't have it on in background during home office but am likely to miss it due to wife getting home, dinner and family time.

It`s the same PU they need to use both in the sprint and main race? Then it`ll induce some additional mileage ...

For 8 races & qualy one PU unit must endure at least 3200km on average, so another 300km (Friday qualy, FP2 and the sprint race) means an increase of 9.4% !

So the sprint race will have to be a low PU mode, I think ...

British F1 fans didn't need to be asked twice to flock to the track. It feels normal for a few days. 8) =D>

Different run plan for Merc & RedBull. RedBull came out, did 5 laps on the Hard, then 5 laps on the medium. Mercedes did 3 laps at the start on mediums, pit, then have gone back out and have started a longer run, currently on 17 laps and not stopped.

Half way through FP1 and Red Bull are 1.2s ahead of the third car which is a AM. One wonders what Mercedes have in the bag. Because if that is even close to reality, Max is going to lap everyone up to and including P3.

Edit: NathanOlder posted his just before I did mine. His suggests very different strategies.

Yeah, Lewis up to 22 laps now as he pits. Should see some soft runs soon surely from everyone.

Do you think he was doing a sim for the sprint race tomorrow?

That is incorrect. To gain access you need proof of negative test (lateral flow) OR proof of double vaccination

(I was at goodwood festival of speed the weekend earlier, the same rules applied).

Yeah, all fans have been either tested or proof of both jabs.
