2025/2026 Hybrid Powerunit speculation

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

It could be, but the sound of 20 of them at the starting line of the GP would be epic!

Not to mention the downsizing over an ICE, as well as 80kg of weight saving... Plus zero water cooling needed, just oil for the one moving part (turboshaft).

For reference, I notice the Porsche 919 Evo only revs to 8000rpm. So I guess that is what F1 would rev to, if the maximum fuel flow was available at any rpm and not from only above 10,500rpm? :?:

Vuvuzela's have turbochargers attached that alter the sound like the pulse-jet MGU-H that I've speculated?



Look at the device at 57 seconds. It is easy to imagine a MGU-H in between a split turbo being a pretty simple addition (other than obtaining one...). Why couldn't a setup like this run as a real-time 3phase electric generator and power a drive motor?

Because that is a regular turbo jet, with s compressor stage, combustion stage, and turbine.
A pulse jet had no moving parts (I can have a vale though), and uses a shockwave to compress the air, and it does so in pulses, hence the name pulse jet.

Correct Marty, that's not a pulse jet, but this is, you can hear it pulsing,
& see how inefficient it is at converting fuel into thrust, rather than heat:

Indeed, such an engine type was proposed recently, of course by VAG, although it was not clear if it should be a V4 or a four inline.
Not very likely to be accepted, auto motor und sport though noted that even Ferrari alledgedly has no serious reservations against that type of engine any more.
So with VAG of course wanting a refreshment from the scratch and the others keep the current formula as much as possible, why not accepting both configurations?

A slightly bigger engine v4 means less moving parts than a v6. The mgu h should remain but the other manufacturers has to offer it for sale. Nicd cost cap.. A inline engine need a support frame. Hence a v4 is a better solution

A inline 4 has much less moving parts then a V4 and is a lot easier in construction (with only one exhaust side instead of two), and only needs two simple structures on the side as a support... I don't see your logic.

Why not use the existing inline-four 2.0 from Super Formula, DTM and SuperGT? There are already six engines designed to this formula (Mercedes, Toyota, BMW, Nissan, Honda, Audi) which could have a hybrid system added.
