I dont think thats correct, Mclaren just asking how many laps there will be. 39 laps was the answer if we get started, so we dont need to finish in 3hrs after the original start time.
Although that could be a theoretical 39 laps notwithstanding time limits! It’s mad how no one seems to know. Even Masi said something was ‘his assumption’!
I’ve said it before, but F1 prides themselves on being the ultimate motorsport, yet they time and time again can’t get the fundamentals of running a race correct.
So true! Sometimes it seems like watching The Thick Of It/Veep/twenty12/W1A depending on if one has seen any of those shows.

Everyone is bothered about who will get what points selfishly.

Nothing matters. Who wins/loses or gets what. Those fans deserve a race and a cracker at that.

Safety above all. Really hope the weather clears enough for a race.

A point, if the race does not start, what about those who bought tickets for " the F1 GP". Refund?

Ok, this is starting to look like there will be no race. What a travesty.

As time goes on this decision to ‘start but not start’ the race earlier is looking like a bloody stupid one. If it means it’s done and dusted three hours later with no chance of tomorrow.

This. I’m a fan of racing, not so much any particular team / driver.

I just want to see a show. I feel bad for the fans there.

Why can’t the wave the 3 hour rule, the race never went green. There’s plenty of daylight.

The fans have stood in the rain for hours, if there’s daylight they should race. If they do 2 laps behind the SC then pack up the fans will go nuts, it’ll be Indianapolis 2005 again

Other than Max and George, I suspect everybody wants a race.

For rain canceled races, all teams should have two sim driving rigs with f1 2021 and the drivers should race virtually. A last gasp contingency plan. George Russell would probably win.... 😂

It's time Esports steps up and saves the day.

So am I right in saying the current situation is this due to rule changes in 2019:

2018: 1 formation lap + 1 Racing lap (under safety car)
2021: 1 formation lap + 1 racing lap distance reduced

This explains why Perez is not a lap down since the second lap was not a racing lap.

Agree with all that. Looks like the poor long suffering fans are going home with nothing unfortunately. Wonder if they get refunds or part refunds for this? I hope so.

There seems zero point in trundling the drivers out for a glorified parade lap

So the way they got to the 39 laps number is by including those delayed start times when the cars did not even move from the pitlane? Sounds ridiculous.

+1 this. This is infinitely better than not having the race, or trying to have it on Monday, or making an attempt at coming back at a later date...

Completely agree. Imagine being one of the poor SOB’s who has sat there for nothing.
I have no idea why Masi has pained himself into a corner by saying the race had started and that we were into the 3 hour window when even that was debatable.
