Re: Mclaren to use new diffuser??

Post

I'm cheering for McLaren so I hope they have a new diffuser ready to go.

It still amazes me that all these big teams didn't start working on a similar diffuser over a month ago when testing started.

Now they are crying foul and are standing there with their pants down.

That being said, I don't think McLaren has anything to lose and they should go for it if they got it.

However, I read an article that said that changing the diffuser wasn't so simple as MUCH of the car's aerodynamics needed to be changed to have it work properly.

That might be the reason why so many big teams didn't pursue it yet, it's because it's more complicated to implement than it appears on the surface (or underneath I should say, haha).

I think that's actually the main reason that McLaren have struggled so much thus far. They made the decision early on that the needed to change the cars philosophy to utilise a similar diffuser. That crippled their initial pace and they're now clawing it back. If so then it must have been very painful for them, having to consciously compromise their initial performance whilst they bring the new aero online.

Edit: By early on I mean post launch but relatively shortly after that.

I hate to say it, but this has been discussed ad nauseum in the 2009 Diffuser Rule Interpretation thread in the Aerodynamics, Chassis, and Tyres section, as well as the MP4-24 thread and Aussie GP thread in the General Chat section.......
Best regards. I guess this explains why I'm not at my post!

BBC might be right.

Dont tell me that the other teams dont have new diffusers ready, they wouldnt let 0.5 second slip.

And mclaren seems to be one of the smart teams that took a special diffuser with them in case the bgp, williams and toyota diffusers gets the green light.

though the half second wont help them much(if we have to beleive this is their real pace).

Ferrari and RB are pretty stupid i think, why go in court? Those teams already have other legal diffusers ready so it wont bother them that much. And if Bgp's is for real they are probably still on top.

I think tk421 comment was because its not necesary to create a new thread when you have got 3 about the same theme:

What's not to understand?

You have been suggested by many members to continue this discussion in one of the many other threads with the same topic. Please do so and stop posting here. Thanks.

There is no problem with starting new threads, as long as they are of a new topic that isn't already being discussed in an active thread.

We simply want order.
