I think the sprint is great. Suddenly we have three sessions that count something. Without the sprint we have three boring session where we at the end try to figure who did what...
Especially if you are at the track. Every day a special and on Friday and Saturday two sessions where you can enjoy the cars and take pictures.

I know that people are a bit desperate that Hamilton can not overtake. But for me it was a completely ok session. In Q you have three exciting laps...today you had a really good start, a restart and a long time waiting for the tires of some people giving up. Nothing wrong here for me, better than a usual Q.

Any views on tyre strategy anybody? Should they start on the softs? I expect RIC to start on softs and trying to get out first. He used to be the latest of brakers and the best overtaker (VER being the earliest braker, but taking most speed through the corners). In the sprint he almost overtook VER from behind. But this time he will start on the dirty side of the track. Or will it be NOR that will attack?
Will VER start on softs to counter this? I expect him to run away if he gets through the chicane first. So I would start him on softs, although I guess he will be on Mediums.

The soft tires would be best left for the end when the car is low on fuel. The pace on them with high fuel would compromise their race.

Starting on softs pretty much guarantees Hamilton will pass them with an overcut.

I think mediums for the start to prevent losing positions to ones on softs and then eventually switch to softs towards the end of race. I believe that should be the fastest strategy. Unfortunately, most will try to get through on one-stop since it appears to be difficult to pass.

nah no need F1 is so boring i rather enjoy my weekend and just read the results now might look back a few videos on youtube but no longer going to spend 12 hours watching all , better stuff on netflix

If you look at the fp2 long runs, Mercedes, RB and alpine alternated stints between their drivers, yet there is hardly any pace differences.

I expect most just to go medium-hard. For McLaren a double podium seems possible if played out well, and would be a great result, so I don't expect any high risk approach from them.

Wouldn't McLaren go for 1 soft for RIC, just to try? And 1 medium for NOR to keep HAM at bay. They have 2 cars in the top 4. Why not go for 1 at the top of the podium?

I don't think that would work. Even if Riciardo passes Verstappen in turn 1, he would probably get passed during pitstops, likely by not only Verstappen but Norris and possibly Hamilton too.

It would be a risky strategy and I think starting on medium for both would be a safer option to get a double podium.

Would love to see it happen though!

F2. Lap 1 car broadside across the track at the Lesmos had me concerned. Why was the safety car not immediately deployed to collect them before T1? Took ages for the VSC, then they had to squeeze past on their own???

I hope RIC gets a good start and heads straight across for turn 1. Let's see if Max is prepared to battle for turn 1 when he's got a championship on the line.

Double Podium? A win and a 1-2 would be even better for McLaren and they can do it with an great start and strategy.

McLaren almost lost 1s per lap in the sprint race yesterday. Getting one driver on the podium could be a realistic target, if Perez and Bottas get stuck in traffic, but that's about it, I think.
