Congratulations. FIRST title since 2007!!!
There will be a bit extra in prize money (about 30m more than last year) and then likely some bonus payments from sponsors. We'll also be able to get better sponsors and charge more
There was an awful lot of praise on here throughout the season and specifically after the win, praising the designers, engineers, Andrea and Zak.tok-tokkie wrote: ↑09 Dec 2024, 09:57On the F1TV commentary the names of any of the design team was not mentioned once during the race – in fact there was zero mention of the engineering team what so ever. Giles Richards in The Guardian did an article about McLaren’s winning the constructors championship & there too was zero mention of the engineering team. I have read the last 4 pages of this thread & again no mention of the design team.
In the English speaking world the status of engineers is so low that they are equated with mechanics and plumbers.
I had to resort to Google to learn the names of the designers of this car. The car that trounced the one coming from the only current design engineer who has any public recognition = Adrian Newey.
Yes, Buxton pulled another one out of his ... with that one. It was clearly visible that the others where stunned (in a bad way) with his reasoning. They were literally out of words!Ground Effect wrote: ↑09 Dec 2024, 14:44I watched the post race show on F1TV, for some odd reason, Buxton seemed to annoint Oscar as McLaren's title contender, I'm wondering if I misheard things.

I too wanted the WCC more than the WDC this year. It is kind of a vindication for 1999, 2007 and 2008.
This is a great article with/ about ZakGround Effect wrote: ↑09 Dec 2024, 14:44Wow! WCC!!! I have to admit, this is the title I wanted more out of the two. But hoping for double delight in 2025. In 2018, Zak said the team were on a 5 year plan to get back to challenging for titles, so if you take out the 1 year of Covid, that lead to an extra year of stability and more or less no development, they were pretty much on schedule. It's more remarkable after the 2022/23 issues with the car. Most likely, without a change in the status quo, they wouldn't be World Constructors Champions for 2024. Well done to all involved in this incredible resurgence.
