A full explanation of McLaren's early withdrawal from Yasuhisa Arai, Honda R&D senior managing officer:

"We had to stop running this morning after discovering a faulty seal on the MGU-K. That faulty part then caused an issue that requires full replacement of the power-unit - and the time needed to make those changes effectively ends today's programme.

"We'll need to run a re-designed component to avoid a potential repeat of the problem. Unfortunately, we won't be in possession of that updated part until Saturday, which means that we may face the same problem when we run again tomorrow.

"Such issues are all part of testing, but we'll make the best changes we can overnight, and will plan for a productive day of running - with Fernando behind the wheel - tomorrow.

"Hopefully, with a bespoke solution ready for Saturday, both drivers will have an opportunity to get some useful laps under their belts, with Jenson driving on Saturday, and Fernando concluding the test on Sunday."
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

And it was all looking so good: McLaren have a faulty seal on MGU-K that can't be redesigned until Saturday..

For the record that means they probably will run tommorrow. It's just the issue might repeat itself. They'll probably will do short runs tommorrow.

Again, it's never a good situation to be in, but this is what testing is about. Renault and Ferrari were actually going much slower through their issues last year.

Honda just needs to manage to be able to do race distances in the last test. Only then we'll be able to carefully the situation.

According to @tgruener and AMuS, now Rosberg not available today because of an inflamed nerve in his neck. He's in pain.

They seem to put too much pressure on themselves. Rosberg at least

...and for Lewis reports are in that he has a high fever. Looking at the current time of the year. I hope he didn't caught a flu, because then he would simply miss out the Barcelona testing this weekend for sure.

Kimi's lap with harder tyre than the sauber.

Obviously far too early to say anything but, on top of anything else, Ferrari engines are yet to have mechanical issues.

Last year's pole time was a 1:25.232, granted it was quite warm that day so of course the cars and the track itself would be quite a bit slower than in the relatively cool weather we're currently having would allow. Still if we take 2013, which had the most advanced versions of the exhaust blown diffuser cars, the fastest time in pre-season testing was a 1:20.130, and the pole lap was set by the same person (N.Rosberg) was a 1:20.718, less than .6 seconds slower. If we apply the same logic here, the fastest time at the test should definitely be within +/- one second of the fastest car's ultimate pace. With such limited testing it's almost insane to not at least push the car to it's limit at least once, Mercedes did last year.
Probably not widely available but interesting to know the different compounds use in 2013 from testing to quali. Probably find a softer one was used in testing and this accounts for the difference (+ likely additional fuel load in testing).

1:25.5 from Kimi already not looking too shabby.

Head-tail collision? Nasr is missing his rear wing.
