I know Maldonado was in the pitbox, but given his reputation we can't rule him out yet :P :P.

I hope they are all right.

A full explanation of McLaren's early withdrawal from Yasuhisa Arai, Honda R&D senior managing officer:

"We had to stop running this morning after discovering a faulty seal on the MGU-K. That faulty part then caused an issue that requires full replacement of the power-unit - and the time needed to make those changes effectively ends today's programme.

"We'll need to run a re-designed component to avoid a potential repeat of the problem. Unfortunately, we won't be in possession of that updated part until Saturday, which means that we may face the same problem when we run again tomorrow.

"Such issues are all part of testing, but we'll make the best changes we can overnight, and will plan for a productive day of running - with Fernando behind the wheel - tomorrow.

"Hopefully, with a bespoke solution ready for Saturday, both drivers will have an opportunity to get some useful laps under their belts, with Jenson driving on Saturday, and Fernando concluding the test on Sunday."
You come to a test, where you know you are likely to suffer from malfunctions and failures.

Why are there not replacements for everything that you are using, why is there not a duplicate in some form or another of every single component that you are likely to use.

scroll down to see what happened...

Susie probably didn't see him and turned into the curve...

But info in the paddock says Nasr spun by himself and Wolff had to swerve... (AMUS)

just put the pieces of the stationary puzzle together (damged right rear / and front left)
Williams have just told us that Susie Wolff was on an outlap and going slowly, thus Nasr has swept around Turn Four and tried to get ahead of her before Turn Five leading to the pair making contact. Wolff is unhurt and doesn't think that it was her fault. Williams will now assess the damage in the hope of getting back out again this afternoon.

other suggestion by people is rear wing failure on the Sauber sending it into the Williams

That would have been tremendously unfortunate, just think about it.

Some eye witnesses reported that Susie was on an outlap, slowed down to let Nasr through, and that Nasr moved to soon back the race line, cutting across the Williams.

Nothing official yet though.

An eye-witness has confirmed it was Nasr's fault. He overtook a slow moving Wolff, who was letting him past, and swept back onto the racing line too soon clipping the front of her car. A bit embarrassing for him, but hopefully the Sauber isn't too badly damaged and can be fixed easily in time for tomorrow. Same for the Williams.

Edit: Ah, turbof1 beat me to it...

So Raikkonen already faster than this.

Not that surprising since we're supposed to be expecting cars 2, possibly 3, secs faster than last year but worth also pointing out that Kimi (and Ferrari's) best time in quali last year was 01:26.960, so he's already nearly two secs up on that.

Pretty impressive for a first day, whatever the other teams are going to end up capable of.

Edit: plus the option was soft for quali last year...
