RB20 looks like a monster here compared to RB19, but I think RB19 was managing more with the engine issue and driving to a delta. Ferrari and Merc are closer than last year.chrisc90 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2024, 15:04Different tyres, but I think I merged the 2 charts right from 2023 and 2024 in photoshop.

Don't think this is a totally fair comparison though because Red Bull ran detuned engines last year and generally more conservatively here in Bahrain. Let's wait until Jeddah, but it is clear that they made a big step with the RB20. These indicate a far better picture in my opinion of the actual lap time gains in race trim at least. In the first stint last year where Max pulled away without too much management -- he is doing high 37s to low 38s across his first 15 odd laps. This year his first stint was a 37.0 sharp.
RB have found 1s+ in race trim from RB19 to RB20. With better wind conditions I think we could have seen this translate over one lap as well.

Marko grinned when asked about the rumour : "Let's see"
What happened to Japan? I believe all teams will have a major upgrade by Imola.
Wache said Suzuka and Imola. I guess maybe AMuS heard the Imola one is major
The full quote from the article claims the imola package promises a big stepThere were rumors in the Bahrain paddock that Red Bull would be adding a major upgrade for the European opener in Imola, promising a big step forward. When asked about this, Marko simply grinned meaningfully: "Let's see."
That's why I tried to just stick to first stint comparison. Engine detuning isn't very apparent to me -- feel free to correct me. Take for instance Lap 6 in both races. The major gains are in the corners.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑03 Mar 2024, 17:10Don't think this is a totally fair comparison though because Red Bull ran detuned engines last year and generally more conservatively here in Bahrain. https://www.racefans.net/2024/03/03/red ... ger-perez/The next race takes place at Jeddah Corniche Circuit, which has a less abrasive surface and far more high-speed corners than Bahrain. Perez, who won last year’s race at the track, forecasts another strong weekend for the team.
“I believe that the car will be strong there with the high-speed content,” he said. “So I think there should be another strong weekend for us.”
He also said he struggled with downshifts and engine braking in the race and that they would analyze this. The 34-year-old suggested that his focus is instead on the team maintaining their momentum, particularly as the car develops throughout the campaign.
“I think, so far, it’s just important, the car is going to be evolving and changing,” Perez commented. “I think it’s just important to keep it up, keep the momentum going, and make sure that we are able to keep that momentum with us.”
Not that that information is false necessarily, but this account is always sh*t-stirring against Red Bull and Max, he has a very clear agenda.
