Honda Exhaust

Post

I saw this picture and I was like whoa, there exhaust pipes are huge compared to other teams. Also, it looks like it contributes to a lot of drag, but then maybe I thought that the hump could direct some air to the rear wing?

Simon: Nils? You can close in now. Nils?
John McClane: [on the guard's phone] Attention! Attention! Nils is dead! I repeat, Nils is dead, ----head. So's his pal, and those four guys from the East German All-Stars, your boys at the bank? They're gonna be a little late.
Simon: [on the phone] John... in the back of the truck you're driving, there's $13 billon dollars worth in gold bullion. I wonder would a deal be out of the question?
John McClane: [on the phone] Yeah, I got a deal for you. Come out from that rock you're hiding under, and I'll drive this truck up your ass.

I could be wrong, but i think thats a Super Aguri. Honda has more 'built in' exhaust anyway.

Speaking of big exhausts though, i remember seeing a pic of the toyota, and they seem to have rather big and sticking out exhausts. Anyone else seen it?

That is an Aguri. Also, if you look at the exhausts from all of the cars in '02 you will see that they are indeed very large compared to todays standards.

Jason, they are much larger than normal exhaust outlets, go and find a photo of the rear of a Mclaren/Renault etc.

Yeah, but surely the exhaust size is wholly dependant on the engine requirements, not the chassis.

As in, should the exhaust not be similar to that on the works Honda, irrespective of the older chassis?

For Montreal and USA it won't matter much because the average speed will be quite low for both and therefore aerodynamics isn't so vital, but I don't know where it was taken. Why can't SA fit a Honda engine cover?

That's impossible. Rear end of the chassis including front of sidepods/side impact structure as well as rool structure/air box inlet dictate shape of what follows behind them and since chassis of Honda and SA are different sharing engine cover is out of the question.

I don't think SA have much say over how size and placement of the exhausts, Honda give them the engine and they just have to fit it in the car. Thats why it's not as "built-in" as the works engine/chassis combo which is obviously designed at 1 unit...

I will say that the Honda engines sounded very deep at the USGP. Could have been because of the larger exhaust manifolds.
