Button also complains about Michelin
The French tyre supplier, Michelin, has come under pressure following the Brazilian GP with three F1 drivers saying they weren't happy with their performance. BAR Honda driver Jenson Button follows Toyota's Ralf Schumacher and Red Bull's David Coulthard.
Ralf Schumacher complained that his Toyota had the incorrect tyres on the front of his car while Coulthard said that the tyres just weren't good enough. Now Jenson Button complains that he never felt comfortable during the GP and his tyres forced him to be extremly cautious in Brazil.
Jenson Button
"It's a nightmare, because you get no confidence in the car, you can't carry your speed through any corners because you're not sure what's going to happen. That didn't go away from the start to the finish."
Button said his specific problem is what they call ‘graining’. That simply means that you find a ripple on the surface of the tyre. This obviously affects the grip of the car, forcing the driver to oversteer.
"We took the hard tyre as well, because of that issue, and we thought it would be fine."
The setup of a Formula One car can also add to ‘graining’ but, who is responsible, it’s obvious the drivers were not happy with their race tyres.
