We expect our diffuser to be copied - Michaels
The Williams F1 team expect their diffuser design, along with a similar one from Toyota, to be copied by more than half the grid upon arriving at Melbourne for the Australian GP. Only Williams and Toyota designed a different diffuser compared to the more common and basic design found in the rest of the teams. Despite teams questioning the legality of the raised central section, the FIA gave it the green light.
Technical director Sam Michael said at a media event at their factory: "It was something that in various forms teams have been doing for two years, so it wasn't really a big issue for us or the FIA. So it was something that we clarified with the FIA well over a year ago."
"I am sure they will copy us," added Michael, "I would be amazed if at least half the grid in Melbourne doesnt have it."
