Rosberg signs contract with Williams F1
Nico Rosberg, GP2 Champion, says he has agreed a deal to be one of the Williams F1 team's three drivers next season. Nico Rosberg was born on June 27, 1985 in Wiesbaden, Germany and his father is the Finnish ex- F1 driver Keke Rosberg, who won the 1981 Formula One Drivers' Championship.
Nico Rosberg "Am I ready? Yes, definitely, 110% ready. At the beginning of the week (team boss) Frank Williams said I will be one of the three drivers for 2006. So at least I will be test driver next year and hopefully race driver. It will be decided in the next week or two."
Williams have a spare race seat alongside Aussi Mark Webber after Jenson Button bought his way out of a contract and Nick Heidfeld left the team for the new BMW Team.
Nico Rosberg is seen by many as favourite to beat off the claims of Antonio Pizzonia and an unnamed third driver, possibly Anthony Davidson.
The Brittish team is a natural place for Rosberg to make his F1 debut - his fathter won the world title in a Cosworth-engined Williams.
"It would be Williams-Cosworth-Rosberg. That was a world championship-winning combination 24 years ago, so it would be very nice."
Rosberg revealed his deal with Williams includes a get-out clause allowing him to drive elsewhere in 2006 and 2007 if he can find guaranteed a race seat.
"I feel very much at home and want to be part of the team next year."
