Alonso still has work with set-up

Fernando Alonso, the new (and youngest) World Champion seemed quite competitive on Friday in China, but still has work to do to improve the set-up for the R25 for the last race of the season, the race that will decide who becomes the new Constructors' Champion.

Interview with Fernando Alonso

Fernando, how did the day go?
"Not too bad, I think. We did the laps, ran the tyres and got a feel for the direction to go in. The car was quite nervous to drive, though."

Can you fix it tomorrow?
"Yes, I think so. The track conditions were not good today – very dirty, and very windy as well. That made it harder, and as the grip levels on the circuit improve then I think the handling of the car will as well."

We saw you have some oversteering moments in turn 1 – what was that about?
"Well, it was just quite a light rear end on the car, and that meant it was hard to attack the braking areas and the corner entry. It caught me out a few times, but it wasn’t a big problem. Turn 1 is a very tricky corner, because you have to brake a long way into it while downshifting and turning. So it’s not an easy place to get right."

You and Kimi are the top two race drivers in today’s times. This year, you are champion, but he has won more races than you… What do you think that shows?
"I think it shows he has had the best car, that’s all. So everybody is talking about him at the moment. Next year, if somebody else has the car, then they will talk about him. But I am not disappointed – on the contrary, I am very pleased to have won with the second quickest car. I don’t think that has happened very often, and I did it. So I am happy, more than happy, with what we have done this year."
