Efficiency and effectiveness are prerequisite - Theissen

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen represents a new breed of Formula One team principal. His approach is to analyse, structure and direct - all while avoiding the constant pressure of being in the limelight.

Working efficiently is a high priority for Theissen and the BMW Sauber F1 Team. Even the BMW Motorsport Director's everyday routine is strictly organised. "During periods without races I commute between Munich and Hinwil. During the season I have another office at the race track," Theissen explains. "This definitely requires a structured system of working. Efficiency and effectiveness are a prerequisite if you want to progress quickly, particularly when tasks are distributed between several locations; It goes without saying that this applies to the entire BMW Sauber F1 Team."

Theissen is regarded as a meticulous worker - and seems happy to maintain his public image: "There is definitely some truth behind that. We live in a networked, fast-moving world and must be able to react promptly to many uncertainties. It is not always easy to keep a good overview of everything. During the team's development phase it was particularly important to be present at several sites at the same time and to provide orientation, but it was also important no to lose sight of the details. In the meantime, the team has established itself, and the leadership work is the responsibility of many people."
