I will always support my team - Massa

Felipe Massa did not have far to come to work today, as a Monaco resident and he joined three other drivers in today’s FIA Press Conference. With the decision from the Paris court dominating the F1 headlines, the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver’s views on the circuit were not the main topic for the world’s press, although he was asked to assess the most challenging point on this famous street circuit.

“It’s definitely the Casino Square, as it is quite difficult to get right and you pay the price if you get it wrong, as I did a couple of years ago when I crashed at that spot. Really, there is not one place here where you gain or lose time more than anywhere else and every corner is important in terms of getting a good lap time, so you need to be consistent and fully concentrated.”

Onto the political news and Massa was firm in his support for his team’s position. “I will always support my team and to be honest, it is not just Ferrari standing alone in this. We have taken the lead in the matter, but most of the other teams think the same way. From my point of view, I am a Formula 1 driver, but before that I am a Ferrari driver and I am very proud of that.” While standing firm with the Scuderia, Felipe also put his own case: “I am neutral in my role as a driver, but I think that many of the ideas that have come from FOTA, regarding cost cutting are very good and interesting and I think the current situation is politically motivated. I am not a politician, I simply want the best for the sport I work in. I want it for the fans and the sponsors because we race for the fans and because of the support from our sponsors. The current situation must be difficult for them to understand.”

And a final word on this weekend’s sporting activity? “I am very confident we can do a good job and as for the problem with the refuelling I had in Spain, we had never seen this happen before.”
