Briatore and Symonds write letter to FIA
According to the Spanish newspaper 'AS', Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds wrote a letter to the governing body claiming that the charge of race-fixing in Singapore in 2008 is untrue. Renault will have to defend themselves during an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on 21 September at Paris.
Earlier this month, it became clear that the FIA is investigating the spin of Nelson Piquet Jr. during the Singapore Grand Prix of 2008. After the crash, the safety car had to come out and at that moment Fernando Alonso took the lead to take victory during the first ever night race.
Renault has been accused of instructing the Brazilian driver to crash deliberately with the promise that his contract would be renewed for 2009. The FIA was presented with evidence to start the investigation only days after Nelsinho was put aside by the French outfit.
