FIA publish full decision on Ferrari
Yesterday, the World Motorsport Council decided not to give Ferrari further punishment after they were handed a $100,000 fine for using team orders during the German GP. Today, the FIA released the full decision.
In their defence, Ferrari argued that it has not given any direct team order, but instead only gave Felipe Massa information about the situation in the race at that time.
The team further stated that other actions intervening with the race result, such as Vettel crashing into Webber at Turkey, or Hamilton and Button changing positions at Turkey after a "save fuel" message could similarly be judged as team orders, and in these cases there was no penalty for the team, nor its drivers.
The FIA reporter though found the team in breach with the team order regulation and asked for a 5 second penalty for Alonso and a withdrawal of their championship points.
During the disciplinary hearing, the FIA agreed there were problems with the interpretation of the rule, and therefore the rule will be put up for review by the F1 Sporting Working Group.
Nonetheless, Ferrari was found guilty of breaching the rules and are required to pay the bills of the proceedings, but no further penalties were deemed necessary. In deciding the penalty, the court also considered the letters in support of Ferrari by Frank Williams and Peter Sauber.
