Lotterer-Treluyer-Fassler lead entire Audi podium at Le Mans

Race event, Le Mans 24h, Circuit de la Sarthe

For the second year in a row, André Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fässler have won the Le Mans 24 hours race. After starting from pole, they led almost the entire race in their #1 Audi E-Tron Quattro, only to be challenged briefly by the #2 Audi. The Audi #4 R18 Ultra completed the podium.

As was expected, Audi dominantly won this race, but not without allowing their drivers to race each other. The uprise from car #2 was eventually stopped 3 hours from the end after McNish broke the front end bodywork and lost 2 laps in the pits after briefly leading the race.

Behind them, the #4 Audi Ultra ran competitively, while the #3 fell back with 2 crashes, requiring considerable repairing time.

Already before halfway, both Toyotas were eliminated due to driver errors. The #8 was first after Anthony Davidson clashed with a Ferrari during an overtaking attempt. 10 minutes after the restart, the second Toyota was also out after Nakajima misjudged a passing attempt on the Delta wing car. The Delta wing was immediately eliminated while the Toyota abandoned a bit later with a looming engine failure.

In LMP2, the HPD ARX 03B Honda of Starworks Motorsport won the race, 7th overall and one lap ahead of the closest Oreca behind.

LM GTE Pro was won by the Ferrari #51, steered to the finish by Gianarlo Fisichella.

Chevrolet meanwhile marked a win in LM GTE Am as the #50 Corvette C6 ZR1 of Larbre crossed the finish line first.
