Vettel takes the lead in FP2
Sebastian Vettel has topped the second practice session at Marina Bay in preparation of the Singapore GP. Mark Webber went second fastest and confirmed that Red Bull Racing are again in great form.
With darkness having descended, track temperatures are now slightly cooler at around 30 degrees Celsius - check the Weather & Speed tab for the latest information.
Adrian Sutil is the first to take the track and soon finds out his tyres are not yet up to temperature as he locks up under braking. Team mate Paul Di Resta has a similar issue a few moments later. Pastor Maldonado meanwhile went off track after an error but recovered from the run-off area.
Half an hour into the session, Ricciardo is the first to go out on the supersoft tyre, followed by Pic and many others. 15 minutes later, everybody has run a lap on the super softs, with Red Bull emerging on top. Vettel went fastest with a 1:44.249, ahead of Webber, Rosberg, Hamilton, Grosjean, Alonso, Button, Raikkonen, Perez and Ricciardo.
Webber however touched the barrier again with his right rear wheel, causing no obvious damage, but triggering a lot of inspection work in the garage once the Australian got back to the pits. No harm done it seemed, and 15 minutes later he's out again on the supersoft tyres.
By that time, Nico Rosberg has already started doing some race work, running with a longer stint with a higher fuel load.
25 minutes from the end, Maldonado noses his Williams into the wall at Turn 13. Too fast into the corner and nowhere to go. He limps back to the pits with front wing damage. He already had a few moments in FP1 earlier, and soon returns to the pits for a new front wing.
The remainder of the session continued with drivers doing longer runs, either on the harder or the softer compounds. With no one changing to new tyres, the times remained the same, leaving Sebastian Vettel with more than a second in hand on everybody except his teammate Mark Webber.
