Satisfying 2nd free practice - BMW

By on

In the second free practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Nick Heidfeld, Jacques Villeneuve and Robert Kubica continued the preparations for the remainder of the weekend.

In the opening stages of the session, Robert once again held the top position on the time sheets. The Pole covered a total of 26 laps, and, with a personal fastest lap time of 1:33:244, he finished tenth. If a piece of debris hadn't punctured one of his front tyres on the third lap of his second stint, Robert would have completed an even more extensive programme.

The BMW Sauber F1 Team GP regulars, Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve, waited for 40 and 50 minutes, respectively before going out for their first stints, and, like their team-mate, focused on tyre evaluation tests and set-up work. Nick, who completed nine laps, set his fastest lap time (1:33:848) on his first stint and finished 14th, while Jacques Villeneuve (one eight-lap stint) had to settle for a 1:36:246 lap and 25th position.

In the closing stages, when all three BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers were out on the track, a yellow-flag situation prevented the trio from improving their lap times. In the third free practice session, to be held on Saturday, Nick and Jacques will continue preparing themselves and the BMW Sauber F1.06 for the qualifying session and the race on Sunday.
