Manor happy with its performance
Manor F1 Team showed a very strong performance against its closest rivals Renault and Sauber during the qualifying session for the German GP. The team was, however, slightly disappointed as it missed out Q2 by the narrowest margin.
Pascar Wehrlein claimed 18th place while Rio Haryanto finished 20th which is a good starting point for tomorrow’s 67-lap long German GP. The team had problems on the twisty circuit of the Hungaroring a week ago, but the Hockenheimring which puts more emphasis on power highlighted the car’s strengths.
Wehrlein was content that his squad managed to overtake struggling Sauber, but it failed to get the better of Renault. The German explained that with the lack of downforce which led to a significant loss in the last sector which stresses the importance of aerodynamical grip.
“At the moment Renault seem quite strong and especially in the last sector,” started Wehrlein.
“We’re still lacking a bit of downforce, so we couldn’t keep up today; we were losing half a second to them in that sector. But the most important thing is that we’re in front of Sauber, so I can’t be unhappy.”
Rio Haryanto was content with his qualifying. The Indonesian was outqualified by three tenths by his team mate Wehrlein, but he thinks he has done a good job so far over the weekend.
“Very happy. We managed to improve every time we left the garage today. The times were very close through the field today.”
The 23-year old was delighted to beat the team’s closest rival Sauber.
“We did a good job to stay ahead of the Sauber and I’m in a better position for the start.”
Haryanto is hopeful to have a good race after having completed a few strong race simulation runs on Friday.
“Our race pace looks good, so I hope we can have a strong race.”
