We couldn’t maximize the car’s pace – Vettel
Sebastian Vettel was angry with his disappointing qualifying as he thought his car had more pace than the final results suggested. The German indicated that Ferrari could not manage to nail the set up perfectly.
Vettel has showed promising pace during the weekend, but failed to repeat that performance in the all-important qualifying session.
The German was outqualified by his team-mate Kimi Räikkönen and he also struggled with car balance.
“I am not happy with 6th position, it was a difficult session.”
“In the moment I tried to do the best, we didn’t get everything together. Somehow we lost a bit and now we need to understand what happened this afternoon.”
The 29-year old said his lap was not scrappy, he just did not have the confidence to squeeze out the maximum of the SF16-H.
“I was reasonaby happy with my lap, but it wasn’t quick enough, there was a bit of time we lost here and there, overall we struggled a bit to extract the pace from the car.”
The German suggested Ferrari went in the wrong way with its setup because the car felt better in the free practice sessions.
“The balance didn’t come together in qualifying, it was better this morning and yesterday.”
“We know the car can be quicker, but we didn’t manage to get it in the right window, that’s our job and we didn’t succeed.”
The quadruple chamipon expects his car to excel in tomorrow’s race and thinks the race could be exciting.
“I’m sure that tomorrow we’ll be competitive, but again we start a little bit from the back foot, so it will be tough because here it’s not easy to overtake.”
”I think we don’t have to hide, in terms of race pace we are fast, then it should be an interesting race,” concluded the Heppenheim-born driver.
