The adventures of Doornbos and Liuzzi at Malaysia

By on

Already the day after the F1 season opener in Sakhir last Sunday, Robert Doornbos was on his way to Malaysia in order to acclimatize himself and make the final preparations for next weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix. Next to an extensive fitness programme, Red Bull Racing also organised a surprise PR-event for Vitantonio Liuzzi and Robert Doornbos in Singapore.

Back home at his Kuala Lumpur hotel, Robert Doornbos send us the following message:

“Hey! I just got back home from a surprise Red Bull PR-event in Singapore, where Tonio and me did plenty of fun things today! Singapore is only an one-hour flight from Kuala Lumpur so it’s pretty close to the circuit here.”

“My day started at 05:45 when I got my wake-up call to catch our flight to Singapore. Shortly after we arrived there we were welcomed by the Asian wakeboarding champion, who gave us a clinic between 09:00 and 12:00 hours. After a short while I actually got to grips with things and was even able to make some airs and do some basic tricks and grabs!”

“To feed our appetite, we went to the famous ‘Mendosa Beach’ to enjoy lunch. Afterwards Tonio and me had to play a game of volleyball against the Formula Una girls who are selected for the upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix. I honestly don’t understand why the team keeps punishing us for all the good work we deliver, haha!!! Next to this the both of us also gave some interviews to CNN Asia, ESPN and some local media who had been following us all day.”

“Between 14:00 and 15:00 hours we went ‘shark diving’ in a mega aquarium in Singapore called Underwaterworld. As there was also a glazed foot-bridge through the aquarium, everyone could see how tough Formula One drivers really are when in contact with a big shark, haha! Luckily everything went okay, I even touched ‘Jaws’!”

“At the end of the day Tonio and me did a photoshoot with all the people from Red Bull Malaysia and everyone else involved in organising this great day. At 18:00 hours we took our flight back to KL, where I face quite a heavy fitness programme with my trainers tomorrow afternoon. And believe me, it’s really hot here at lunchtime!!!”
