BMW Sauber F1 on world tour

The 2006 season begins with three long-haul races. Only when the Australian GP, to be held on 2nd April, is over, will F1 contest its first European race: the San Marino GP at Imola. Here we provide you with an insight into the logistical challenge the calendar represents for the team.

When Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve's BMW Sauber F1.06s go out on track during a Grand Prix weekend, this is the result of a massive logistical effort. At least four chassis, six engines, wheels, spare parts, tools, more than 50 computers, 100 radio sets including headphones and a garage-full of equipment travels all around the world over the course of the 18-round season. The entire ensemble weighs more than 30 tons and is shipped to the respective venues by air cargo.

From the San Marino Grand Prix, held on 23rd April 2006, the BMW Sauber F1 Teams trucks will also be used. The fleet consists of five trucks, furthermore there is the engine truck from Munich as well as special vans for the team's hospitality. Up to 100 BMW Sauber F1 Team employees are involved when it comes to ensuring a trouble-free Grand Prix weekend.

With the Australian GP being over, the BMW Sauber F1 Team will contest another five overseas races. For the rounds in Montreal, Indianapolis, Shanghai and Sao Paulo, drivers and team members will once again cover many thousands of kilometers in order to be perfectly prepared when batting for World Championship points.
