Formula One’s sole American outfit Haas F1 Team confirmed that Mick Schumacher would drive for them in the first free practice session at the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Kannapolis-based team is set to start the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship with an all-new driver pairing. The team announced yesterday that Mick Schumacher will make his F1 debut with them next year and will partner his Formula 2 rival Nikita Mazepin.

Haas has now also confirmed that Schumacher will receive the chance of trying out the team’s 2020 car, the VF-20 at Abu Dhabi on December 11 during the first practice session of the season finale.

The 21-year-old German, who currently leads the Drivers’ Standings in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with two races to go, was due to drive for Haas at the Eifel Grand Prix before the session was called off due to poor weather conditions.

Schumacher last drove a Formula 1 car at Fiorano on September 30 where he got behind the wheel of a 2018-spec Ferrari SF71H as part of a test programme organized by Scuderia Ferrari for three of their junior drivers including Schumacher, Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman.
