Fisico going for the win!

The Renault F1 Team’s Italian star, Giancarlo Fisichella, took part in today’s official press conference in Melbourne. And he’s sounding positive! Giancarlo Fisichella, winner of the last round of the championship in Malaysia, met the international press this afternoon at Albert Park. “I love Australia!” explained the Italian. “There is a fantastic atmosphere, and it makes this a special event. It is not one of my favourite circuits, but I have a good feeling about it this year.”

Melbourne had never smiled on Fisico… until last year. “I won here a year ago, and my win in Sepang two weeks ago has given me a really big boost,” he explained. “In the past, I was never very successful at this track, but I also didn’t have a competitive car here before the Renault. I had some bad luck too. But last year, with a good package, I did my best and won the race. So I want to win again this weekend.”

Just like last year, the Renault F1 Team has made a strong, points-scoring start to the season. “That’s our main priority,” continued Fisico. “Like in 2005, we wanted to be quick from the start, but with perfect reliability too. Apart from my engine problem in Bahrain, we have been.” The team is among the favourites for Sunday, but that doesn’t mean he’s giving up. “The secret to success in Formula 1 is development,” concludes Giancarlo. “Our rivals will be pushing hard too, but I am confident about Renault. We are motivated to fight hard.”
