JV eyes 11th year in F1
The 2006 Australian GP is a momentous milestone in Jacques' F1 career. The race marks ten years of JV racing in the sport since his astonishing debut at Melbourne in 1996 when only an oil leak deprived the then rookie of victory. Although not prone to sentimentality, Jacques has admitted that this weekend's grand prix is a special race for him.
"I have very good memories, mostly in the first couple of years definitely, but not so many afterwards," Villeneuve told reporters after arriving in Australia. "I wasn't thinking about it being 10 years actually. I always like coming here because it has been a track that I always went well at, especially in qualifying and since we have started the season more competitive than we did last season, coming here is exciting."
Jacques has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign and hinted that he may yet be travelling to Melbourne in 2007.
"I certainly hope I am still here next season," he said. "I am not ready to quit F1 but it doesn't depend on just me, it depends on a bunch of other factors."
