Imola to honour Gilles Villeneuve

Imola, home of the upcoming San Marino Grand Prix, is set to honour Ferrari's legendary Gilles Villeneuve. In April 1982, the Canadian memorably diced with team-mate Didier Pironi for the win at the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit, located near Bologna. A fortnight later, Villeneuve - then 31 and the father of eleven-year-old son Jacques - was killed in one of F1's most violent accidents in practice at Zolder.
Italy's ANSA agency revealed that, like the Villeneuve chicane at the nearby circuit, a square in the Imola town will be named after him at a ceremony on the Thursday prior to the April 23 2006 race.
1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve will be present, while ANSA reported that his mother Johanna - Gilles' widow - is 'also expected to attend'.
