Kovalainen on top in multi-team test

On the first day of testing for the Renault F1 Team at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, young gun Heikki Kovalainen, has set the pace for the French F1 Team. Kovalainen had a very busy day as he covered 144 laps. Honda's Barrichello clocked the second fastest time, followed by Fernando Alonso.

Today, Renault, McLaren, BMW Sauber, Toyota, Honda and Super Aguri joined the other four teams who were on track since yesterday. 18 drivers were on track in the last multi-team test session before the first GP of the season in Europe.

Fernando Alonso his programme was interrupted by electronic problems. Pedro de la Rosa, the test driver of the McLaren Team, also had problems today as his MP4-21 suffered an engine problem. Team mate Kimi Raikkonen couldn't run any laps in the morning because he had to wait for his MP4-21 to arrive in Barcelona from the McLaren Technology Centre.

The teams will continue testing tomorrow.
