Having made an interesting comment regarding Mick Schumacher's talent, Williams team boss James Vowles admitted that he wants to learn from his controversial remark.

Following the Dutch Grand Prix weekend which saw Logan Sargeant cause heavy damage to his FW46 during a practice crash, Williams elected to part ways with the American.

The British outfit made tbe decision to give its junior driver Franco Colapinto the chance to make his debut at the pinnacle of motorsport. However, Mick Schumacher was also among the candidates to replace the Miami-born racer.

When asked about his decision, Vowles had stated that the German driver “isn’t special, he would be just good." Vowles received harsh criticism for making such a bod comment from Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. The British engineer has now acknowledges that the incident was a significant lesson for him.

“It’s difficult because that one for me, that’s clearly not what I meant, which is why I went and immediately apologised to him, his family, and everyone around it,” he said.

“I was devastated at the time, because it showed me the power of a few words, and that I have to be far more diligent in what I’m doing and how I’m saying it. It was a learning lesson that I hope stays with me forever.”

Reflecting on his decision to part ways with Sargeant and promote Colapinto into the race driver's role for the remainder of the current season, Vowles said that the Grove-based outfit is intent on investing in future generations in every area of the organisation.

“At my core and Williams’ core, and that is why we align so well, is investing in future generations. Franco epitomises that fundamentally.

“We’re doing the same within the factory with brilliant graduates that we’re pushing through the organisation and giving opportunity to. It’s rewarding because that’s really at the core of what I want,” Vowles added.
