A weekend at Imola

By on

For the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Jacques Villeneuve and Nick Heidfeld, and their BMW Sauber F1.06s, the San Marino Grand Prix will be an extremely demanding event. But Imola has much more going for it than just a challenging track.

The Northern Italian town, which has a population of 65.000, is located close to Bologna and Florence, in the midst of the picturesque region of Emilia Romagna. For the 'Tifosi' and all other motor racing enthusiasts, the historic 'Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari' represents one of the true highlights of the F1 season - and not only because it traditionally marks the start of the European season.

At first glance, Imola may look unspectacular. But the small city's range of culinary highlights is truly remarkable. Several excellent restaurants are located next to the circuit, thus offering a regular meeting place for teams, drivers and fans. And thos who prefer a quieter atmosphere can have a good time in one of Imola's numerous pizzerias.

Pizza, pasta and wine are just as characteristic of Italy as the enthusiasm for sport of any kind. In October, a short marathon will be organised around the circuit. At the same time, Imola also offers all the members of the F1 'circus' the opportunity of taking time out by taking a walk in one of the numerous parks, a short trip to Bologna or visiting one of the theatres, cinemas and pubs located in the city centre.
