Kubica leaves a lasting impression
In the four Grand Prix contested thus so far in 2006, test driver Robert Kubica has supported the BMW Sauber F1 Team in the Friday sessions, and regularly impressed. Prior to his debut as Friday test driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team in Bahrain, Robert has conducted just one Formula One test. But in spite of his lack of experience, he quickly started to shine, delivering in fine style in the Friday sessions.
During each of the four race weekends, the 21-year-old has secured at least one top-three position in the Friday practice sessions. In the season opener he set the fastest lap time in session one and at Imola he finished third in both sessions. But more importantly, the engineers and his team mates, Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve, are provided with valuable information by the young gun. He conducts tyre evaluations with different compounds and gathers data regarding the set-up of the BMW Sauber F1.06.
"We are very impressed with Robert's development so far," confirms BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen. "He constantly exceeds our expectations. If he keeps growing like this, he will be race ripe towards the end of the year."
